We are thrilled to announce a major milestone for the Siz community: the new solar power system at Siz Hospital is fully installed and operational!
This project wasn’t just about putting panels on a roof; it was about ensuring reliable, constant power is available for every patient, every day.
We extend our deepest gratitude to the local community, the hospital staff, the support of Village Health Partnership, and all of our generous VHP donors. Special thanks also go to Yonas Workie and his team at SunTransfer Tech for procuring and installing the solar system, and to the Water Engineers for the Americas and Africa for their crucial engineering input.
For years, the hospital struggled with unstable power, which created serious challenges for life saving services. When electricity flickers or cuts out, critical medical procedures are put on hold. This was especially dangerous for mothers needing emergency services like C-sections.
The solar system eliminates that worry.
What This Completion Means for Siz Hospital:
- Safe Childbirth: We can now reliably power the operating theater, ensuring safe emergency C-sections and a secure environment for mothers and their newborns. This is a game changer for reducing risks during childbirth.
- Constant Care: The system provides stable power for the most essential equipment, including:
- Incubators and monitoring in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
- Refrigeration for storing vaccines and temperature-sensitive medicines.
- Sterilization equipment to keep tools clean and prevent infection.
- Sustained Effort: The community demonstrated amazing resolve by raising funds and acquiring vital medical equipment. The solar system simply provides the steady, dependable power required to run all that wonderful, hard-won equipment 24/7.
The journey to complete this project reflects a powerful partnership. We owe immense thanks to CEO Terefe Keto and the entire hospital staff for their dedication, and to everyone in the Siz community who contributed to this life affirming achievement.
The lights are on for life at Siz Hospital!
